Woof! Furiends, I was going to blog about how pawsome the weather has been; how Grr8 it is that the days are longer; how pawfect I am, then Mom looked at me and said “Really? Better come clean about a syndrome you have or I will”. Mom, really? Isn’t that called “kibble mail”? Isn’t there a rule about this? My furiends think that I am pawfect! BOL I pawpose Mom has a point; that being to share my syndrome in hopes to help you and your parents.

See, I had this as long as I can remember; Mom was barking at me that as a pup (aren’t I still a pup, what is she thinking?); that I would wake her up in the middle of night to alert her that I needed a sink, I need a sink quickly. I would bring bile up in the middle of the night a lot, Mom very rarely had a full night of sleep. Note to self, I need to send Mom a basket of treats. One day, she mentioned this to Doc and he suggested that I was given a very small snack at bedtime. I believe humans call this “midnight snack”; only in our house, it was a 9:00pm snack since I would get (still do…bol) everyone up around 5:00am. Guess what? That worked and Mom was able to get sleep. Woofee
Throughout the years, every now and then, I would bring bile back up late in the night or early in the morning. However, now that I am older, it appears to be back and I am not handling it as well as I did as a pup. Furiends, this getting older is not cracked up to what I thought it would be. I thought that when I got into my golden years, Mom would carry me everywhere; serve my meals in bed; pawicures weekly; and so much more. Oh no, she still makes me walk (aka hike), take stairs and I have to do my own pawicure. Don’t tell her this, sometimes I “play” her and she carries me. BOL
Where was I? Oh yes, my syndrome returned not too long ago and I was in pain. Mom thought maybe it was my IVDD, turned out to be my Bilious Vomiting Syndrome. Yes, I know, it is embarrassing; however, Mom is right that I need to share to help you or your parents if you suffer from this.
What exactly is bilious vomiting syndrome for us dogs? Basically, for us dogs that have this syndrome, we have a reaction to bile being overproduced in our system. If we do not bring this bile back up, we are in pain and our tummies hurt. Which is why Mom knew I was in pain because I was trembling, especially in the morning. After she fed me, I was back to normal. Mom then starting to connect the kibble together, told my new Doc about my puppy years and recent behavior. Just to make sure, Mom told Doc to do all sorts of tests on me; Mom at times can be way too over protective, all those tests are tiring. But, I do get a lot of attention at Doc’s. BOL

So, what does Mom do to help me through this? The treatment is very simple and easy; I get small meals spread through out the day, one of which is right before we go night night. Plus, Mom doesn’t think I know this; she gives me a treat and inside it is PEPCID® AC®. The late night meal helps my tummy stay full and bile is regulated. Yes, I know this was a sensitive subject to bark about, but, hopefully this was helpful.
Time to go and get another small meal. Have you ever heard of bilious vomiting syndrome? Does your tummy get upset easily like mine? How do your parents help you through it?
